I really don't get people's fascination with and/or need for guns. Why can't this issue be dealt with? Why isn't that happening?

If the argument is that you have a right to protect yourself, I have to ask: from whom? More gun-crazy people like yourselves -- who are on the same side of the argument as you? Who wouldn't shoot somebody else because, you know, they're safe, responsible gun owners? Is that what they mean?

Because nobody would need any protection from the likes of me.

There is no need for widespread or casual gun ownership among the masses. None.

Whatever the answer, this is the discussion that needs to be had. And we're not having it, but going in circles, bringing up side issues that don't matter, and using veiled responses that are useless. Which is all probably why nothing is happening.

We have the largest military in the world that brainwashes people that they need guns to be safe.

When your national anthem boasts about rockets' red glare and bombs bursting in air, you've decided what kind of society you're going to be.

One of the children killed was the daughter of the pastor.

The kind of obsessive-compulsive gun love we're seeing now is a much more recent development.

Well, they were coming up with a bill of rights based on the age of enlightenment ideas about human rights; things like liberty requiring freedom of religion, freedom of press, freedom from an unreasonable government. ... and among those civil rights, they were like, "Oh yeah, naturaly every individual has a god-given right to own a weapon that can prove deadly."

    The idea is absurd.

Even so, let's say someone wants to pretend that AR-15s are somehow part of the Bill of Rights; were ever meant to be part of our civil rights. ... how the fuck isn't there a national movement with 98 percent of the population agitating to AMEND the constitution, if that is what people really believe? Instead, it's, "Nope, don't touch our guns!"

We are a nation of laws. Those laws should be putting a primacy of leaving people alone to live their lives. ... and only restricting behavior when it infringes on others' ability to live their lives.

Somehow, we've become a country where people want to regulate every little thing in people's lives -- much of it in the name of protecting people from themselves (despite what those people may or may not want), or on a rationale of stealing from one person to benefit other people (exactly what rights SHOULD be protecting) -- but as people gun down others, including children in schools, year after year, the default somehow is, "No, we can't regulate that!"

    We reap what we sow.

A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State . . .
