I don't know. I wasn't expecting Raging Bull. I was looking for Creed or Creed II. But this all felt so half-ass and phoned-in that I couldn't get with the program.

Amsterdam was pretty fun. Absurdly deep cast. It's no American Hustle (one of my favorites from the previous decade) but worthwhile.

    The new Shazam.

    Mostly basic.

    Watched Nope this week.

Okay, I liked it. Being a fan of Jordan Peele's work helps. The bones of his stories are always visible if you look, but they have never been so obvious as they are in his latest movie. Another reason he's worth watching even if the material is weak compared to his previous work is the performances he pulls from his cast. It's streaming on Prime right now. Not sure if it's a keeper, but his storytelling is usually worth going along for the ride at least once.

We watched RRR on Netflix last night. It’s an Indian film set before India’s independence from Britain. Nonstop action with dancing and fighting. It takes a patriotic free India stance that greatly expanded what I knew about British colonialism. The somewhat traditional Indian film structure was new to me, with extended dance and music interspersed with the over-the-top action. A dance epilogue was new, too. Clocking a bit more than three hours, we hit pause a few times for restroom and refreshment breaks. A fun and thought provoking experience.

Finally watched the new Top Gun now that it's on Prime. Holy shit. Visually stunning action and, as a guy old enough to have seen the first one in the theater (age 14, on a first date), I might have teared up more than once. Knew it was going to be good -- even better than I expected.

Licorice Pizza: dull, dull. Alana Haim was good and Bradley Cooper was hilarious...but the central characters' relationship never seemed believable.

I really like it, but I get that people find it dull. I liked the mood and the pace.

I bought their relationship as friends, but I don’t think they were ever going to consummate. Maybe that’s based on my own history of not always rounding the bases.

Peaked with the Bradley Cooper/Jon Peters scene. Another hour after that not that well spent.

    John Wick 4. Pretty good.

    Waiting for D&D to start.

Son is a big D&D guy (he's the dungeon (?) master for his friends a lot of the time) and was home for spring break so went on Sat. night. I had no clue as to what D&D was or how the movie would be but I found the cast delightful and the story not bad. Chris Pine did a helluva job as did Michelle Rodriguez.

The Tetris movie on Netflix is pretty good. I knew nothing of the story, with the licensing issues and the Russians.

It sort of dives right in. My complaint is it could’ve used 10 minutes at the top to set the landscape and characters. But an enjoyable watch.
