It was a bit more than talking on the floor without permission. They tried to occupy the house floor. Had a megaphone.

It was an act of civil disobedience. Maybe a very good one, if they did it out of conscience. But you do that knowing there may be consequences and you have to live with them.

Someone on here will now take that as me endorsing the shit the Republicans are doing in that state -- and their shittiness has gone way beyond just trying to expel those lawmakers (something I am not endorsing). I'm not.

But if you are justifying them because their aim (gun control) is virtuous for you. ... consider, what if some loon Republican legislator took over the floor with a bullhorn about something you don't find so virtuous? Would you be arguing that expelling the person is unfair or overkill?

Taking over the floor with a bullhorn, while annoying to other members, poses no threat to anyone. Censure, kick 'em off committees, in other words, internal discipline, would be within bounds. Overturning an election, which expulsion is, should require a truly dire act to be justified. Something like, oh, I dunno, participating in an attempt to overturn an election. Same body refused to even hold hearings on disciplining (Republican) member accused of sex with multiple teenage girls.

I agree with you. It's an immoral body.

But that is the starting point they were working from. Whoever has the power is going to selectively enforce rules. This is our country. It's "by any means" politics.

If I lived there, I wouldn't want them expelled for that. And I never want to see election results so easily overturned that way. It erodes democracy.

But my point is still. ... they know the environment they are in. If it was an act of civil disobedience that they think can bring about change, good for them. But there has been quite a bit of people treating this like they didn't put their own heads on the chopping block and it being done outright without any cause. The other half of it is that there is also that level of dishonesty from some people, too, because they are fine with "might makes right" politics when it advances what they want. Which is why governance in our country is more immoral than ever. I wish we had more people not doing whataboutisms and creating selective justifications based on who the actors are.

Yep. An unjustified “cause” isn’t a cause at all, especially when compared with the past precedents set by that august body.

I'd respond, because that is the closest thing you have posted in months to actually responding to anything I have actually said.

But I have no clue what you are talking about.

They tried to occupy the floor. The body has rules of order. They weren't recognized. They took over the floor to try to create a distruption. One of them had a megaphone.

That is the cause the Republicans are now using to try to expel them. They gave those Republicans that cause.

Does that body have rules against child predators being allowed to serve?

If the answer is no, I guess you have a point.

But I’m not surprised you have no clue what I’m talking about. I didn’t use 1,500 words.
