Damn, I mean winds were only 20 mph; we just had 85 mph in CA and my trees (40 ft Oaks) were just fine. Weak GA pine wood.

It looked like they were uprooted, instead of snapped off, by the short vids. It sometimes doesn't take a powerful blast of wind to do that to older, and possibly dying or diseased, trees.

Of course not. A tornado could kill 100 patrons and the tv partners would not speak a word of it.

    AP using the "patrons" language.

It also depends on how much rain there has been lately. When the ground is wet they uproot much more easily. Typically one tap root goes deep, all the rest tend to run along the surface.

Loblolly pines are notoriously susceptible to toppling over if there's been a lot of rain. Our cabin is about 150 miles northeast of Augusta and it's been a particularly rainy winter here. I was surprised not to see more tree damage when we got home but my golf course has at least a half dozen downed pines that need to be cleared this spring.

I rescind my criticism presuming the local paper was somehow uniquely guilty of capitulating to the klan of ANGC.
This brings up an interesting journalism question. The AP doesn’t give in to the NCAA’s “student-athlete” rhetoric. But it goes with “patrons.” What other institutional buzzwords exist in sports? And which of them are universally ignored and which are used?

What is the approved wording to describe that on the broadcast? I’m assuming a hearty “TIMBER!” is right out.
