Part of the problem in 2023 is that after George Floyd, no one can say 'we need more cops' with a straight face.

We need more good cops - and many more responsive services for the mentally ill and the homeless. And fewer guns.

Fewer armored personnel carriers and more storefront psych clinics might be a good start, for example.

We need to treat crime at the root. Whatever those causes - poverty, racism, hopelessness, drugs, etc.

If we're unwilling to organize a response to these things, we'll continue to live in an angry, too-violent police state.

 

I'd really love to meet the heartless sociopath who could look at all the data and conclude "mass incarceration" was the main answer.

 

We still don’t know who paid off Kavanaugh’s debts. And Thomas has, at best, apparently refused to disclose his dealings with someone who bought property from him and took his family on lavish vacations for nothing. Not to mention whatever money was given to Ginny Thomas and her pursuits.
