Watching PTI the other day, Wilbon downplayed the (then) 9-0 start, saying it came against poor competition.

Of course it did. But it still counts, and still matters, because 9-0 vs. crappy teams is still better than 7-2 vs. crappy teams. Every game you win against a crappy team gives you a cushion when you play the good teams.

The beauty of any sport is that all games count the same. September games may "mean" more, but they don't count any more than April games. The team with the most wins, wins the title. Doesn't matter when they won them.

Every single AL East team is now playing catchup.

Could make for a fun thread ... baseball in pop culture over the last 100 years ... in songs, on TV and movies, stage, in literature.

I'm not talking straight baseball books or movies but subtle references to games and names and stadiums etc etc.
