It certainly could be a very dark ending, but I think Moff Gideon will lose somehow. He isn't around for the sequel trilogy. Also, we don't see the Imperial Stormtroopers with Beskar armor, so his plan is foiled somehow. Also, the entire season and half of this episode built up to the Mandalorians coming together. To have them wiped out so quickly and easily would seem like an odd choice, one that wastes all of that build-up. Ahsoka would be the likely candidate to come to the rescue given that she has some connection to Djarin and Grogu, but I'm not sure how she would be alerted to jump in at that moment. I highly doubt we see Ezra Bridger until the Ahsoka series.

I also considered that the X-Wing fighter pilots we saw earlier in the season could come to help, following the evidence from the extraction of Gideon. That could at least help the fleet, but the Mandalorians on the surface would have to save themselves. Maybe something with the Mythosaur?

Do Filoni and Favreau seem particularly dark, tho? They’re not Tony Gilroy.

Gotta say, tho. Props to Favreau this week.

Look at the universe they are working in. In The Mandalorian, they are exploring a time that the story went from the triumph of Return of the Jedi to the rise of the First Order, with the heroes of the original trilogy all seeing their lives go to shit. Luke Skywalker's attempt to bring back the Jedi fails miserably. Han and Leia lose their son to the dark side, then split up. Han goes back to being a corrupt smuggler. Leia, we find out in the novels, is somewhat disgraced when people find out Vader was her father. These are damn dark stories, none of which were created by Favreau or Filoni.

The other time period being explored is the aftermath of Revenge of the Sith, with the last of the Jedi being hunted and the Empire taking control of everything. This is both Andor and The Bad Batch. Again, dark stuff.

This is what the old Legends books did so much better than the sequel trilogy. They had their share of darkness and death, but also light and hope, and the heroes remain more true to who they were by the end of the original trilogy. Conflict doesn't have to be turning everything to shit.

Favreau and Filoni have a framework they can't escape. Somehow, Grogu, Din Djarin, and the other Mandalorians have to be out of the way for the sequel trilogy. Whatever direction their story takes, things have to end up where they were in The Force Awakens. They are also limited in how they use Luke and likely won't use Han and Leia at all.

I'm really curious how they can do a Thrawn story, one that they are clearly making their own version of Heir to the Empire. Those stories revolved around the heroes of the rebellion, but Hamill and Ford are too old and Fisher is gone, so they maybe they have to rely on Mandoverse characters and/or heroes from the animated Rebels series, some of whom we have already seen woven into the live action story.

Something just randomly popped into my head about the end of last week’s episode.

Who forged Moff Gideon’s Mandalorian-style armor?

Whoever sprung him, probably. They found beskar in the wreckage of the ship taking Gideon to trial.

    That’s my thought, too.
There’s a reason she hauled ass out of there.

Of course, that could be a decoy.

That sparked a lot of online speculation that she was a spy and a traitor all along. Like 2mcm, I think it could be a red herring. Either she's a traitor and she's going to help with the destruction of the fleet, or it's a decoy and she's going to rally the troops to save the day. They almost have to be setting up one or the other.

Question: How many days after the episode drops do we keep doing the spoiler font?

That's a good question. I tend to err on the side of using it for a week because it's so easy to just click on the spoilers if you want to do so, but I'm game for doing it differently.

I've seen us go a while with movies, but that's a different scenario. I usually just stay off the threads when I'm behind.

I’m going to propose seven days for TV shows, 14 days for movies.
