Subhead says they will need to rethink security at snooker events. A couple of those cue sticks judiciously used will clear that behavior right up.

You read that - and it's well-written - and just conclude, on some level, how anathema the way the United States is to some progressive thought. It's just completely anathema.

One really interesting thing about the essay - I think it's a hole-blower, tbh - is how the end of subpoint 3 "idealism involves realism" ends on a note of essential frustration, leading to the final subpoint "emergencies demand urgency." In other words - and this is how I think it's right to read it, tho maybe I'm wrong - the "break the planet" moment is nigh, and thus an emergency, and thus, well, the language of emergency is a strategy.

I can read that and acknowledge its depth of thought and caring, while simultaneously wondering what planet a person lives on that thinks America is summarized by all of its costs and consumptions and few to none of its strengths or realities. The guy lives in Vermont and shits on the corn used to feed dairy cows because the dairy industry is falsely propped up. That takes guts to write, in a sense, and is simultaneously a window into a person's thinking about how people live.

Snooker cues are made of ash and rather lightweight. Maybe you use it as a spear but you’re getting in one good shot before it snaps.

The case it travels in, on the other hand…
