2023 Stanley Cup Playoffs

My future wife and I went to Vegas for a week in the spring of 2000. Got there after a long day of travel and I put on ESPN just to unwind for a few minutes. Ended up watching the last couple overtimes of the Flyers-Penguins 5 OT marathon--the longest game in more than 60 years, per my quick Google search. Once you're in for a little bit, you're in for the whole thing.

 

That game ended after midnight Pacific time. Was living in Flag at the time and got home drunk from the bar and was stunned it was still going.

 

Been kind of on the fence about the hit since watching it live last night. I don't think it was dirty, but it was late and awkward and clearly did some significant damage. I normally do not endorse refereeing over the outcomes of plays, but I'm trying to remember someone who came away from a collision as bad as Pavelski did last night that didn't draw a significant penalty, especially when there was a head injury.

As sadly expected, the discourse has not been good.

Apparently someone from the Fort Worth Star-Telegram columnized that Dumba should be physically retaliated against. Michael Russo of the Athletic had some opinions on that, and on some of his Dallas-based haters.





Over/under on the first use of the N word to describe Dumba is Game 3.

 

Nothing--and I mean NOTHING--brings out the homers in the press corps like playoff hockey. It's absolutely insane and almost universal.

 

As soon as I saw UPChip mention an FWST columnist wrote something stupid, I knew in an instant it had to be Mac Engel.

I’ve worked with him and can attest his controversial dumbass act is no act.

 

Hedman is as big a loss as any team can suffer.

So far the Kraken road success of the regular season continues in the playoffs. Grubauer had some great saves in second period.

Guess the Kraken can be released at altitude. At least for one game.
