I have a friend whose mom is really declining this way. He says whenever she wakes up, to her it is a new day. It doesn't matter if she's slept for 10 hours or took a 10-minute nap. It's a new day, and she's ready for breakfast. They try to discourage her from sleeping in the middle of day.

Sorry to interrupt this thread but I continue to be amazed at what this board thinks are "Boomers." I realize Gen X is really terrible at math so I'll explain it really carefully. (And Millenials don't actually read, so this doesn't apply to them.)

NOBODY who is of Boomer age is in their 80s now. The oldest Boomers (those born in 1946) are turning 77. The youngest (those born in 1964) are turning 59. Anybody older than 80 was born during or before World War II. Stop trying to portray a false narrative just because everybody believes Boomers are responsible for the entire world's ills and are evil, greedy old bastards. (OK, that last part is true.)

Give us another decade before you declare us all crazy old people. We'll get there, I promise.

    And GET OFF MY LAWN.

Yup. My dad is first-year Boomer (77 in October). mom is second year (born nine months later in July 1947).

I’m contemplating the idea that there were fellow Gen X’ers voting in the Reagan-Mondale race. I wish to go lie down for a very long nap now.

My bad. I was trying to convey that we have a metric shit ton of people entering their later years and caring for them is going to be difficult.
