Ted Lasso Season 3 (spoilers included)

I don’t think he gets fired. I think he quits because he realizes what Rupert is and decides he doesn’t want to be part of it.

They hit Amsterdam this week for a friendly at Ajax. I don't think it was the greatest episode ever but most of it was very well done.

Colin's dreamers of the dreams soliloquy will be written and talked about a lot in the coming weeks and years.

It'll be interesting to see which Big Sports people (Doyel, Kimes, The Coterie etc etc) write and talk about it first.

 

Was pessimistic about this week’s episode as it started out, but was a fan by the end. Ted in the Van Gogh museum and the restaurant were high points, as well as the chet baker stuff.

 

It was a little too long and occasionally self-indulgent. And the scenes with the team highlighted the shortcoming of most as actors. That being said, just a phenomenal episode.

 

Rebecca’s scenes with the Dutchman were really good as well. Seemed like every character got what they needed to move forward with their arc in this episode. Dare I say, it sets up the rest of the season nicely.

Only thing I didn’t really get was Beard pointing out that Ted’s “original” idea for Total Football was invented in Holland in the 1970s. I was happy to see him finally understand the game well enough to do some actual coaching, rather than simply being a relationship manager. Then Beard immediately undercut it, and I’m not sure exactly the purpose of that moment. I guess just that being in Amsterdam was an inspiration?

 

Re: Ted's "invention," it seems like their choices were to 1) have him create a "new" offense and not really show it to us because that would involve inventing an actual new offense for soccer, or 2) have him invent something, only to learn that it already existed (which I imagine soccer-knowledgeable viewers would have pointed out.)

I had taken it as a given that Ted was going back to America by the end of the season, but seeing him actually engage in the tactical side of soccer at least creates some doubt.

 

Richmond is going to win the title.

 

No one would believe that. Even Leicester were in first most of the season.

 

You know, they could work it so his kid ends up coming to England to be with him.

 

My biggest laugh of the whole episode came when they played "Raindrops Keep Fallin' on My Head" over the bicycle scene. A spectacular reference.

 

I did like the commitment to the joke about the Dutch being upset about the pronunciation of Cruyff.
