Random Thoughts the Third

We have (had) a lot of ash trees in my area. The emerald ash borer has killed most of them over the last few years. We had two in our yard that had to be removed. But whole stands of woods are dead at this point. It's reminiscent of the Dutch Elm disease of 60 years ago, except that the ash borer attacks all trees, young and old. We still have elm trees that grow for 25 years or so before the elm disease gets to them.

 

Delayed random thoughts ... Philip Seymour Hoffman as Art Howe?

 

Woody Harrelson would have been a better pick.

 

My son is four and I found out at his check-up today that he’s in the 97th percentile for height. I’m short. I may need to call that IVF doctor and start asking questions. I mean, my wife is tall and her dad was a basketball post player and the kid looks like me, but I’m gonna look ridiculous on parent’s night if he plays sports and I got a kid who is a foot taller than me.

 

Reeves and Buchanan had volatile chemistry and would have made a great TV couple.

 

When I took my 8 year old out for youth rugby, some of the guys asked if her birth dad was Maori.

I think I was more proud than offended.

 

The best female basketballer I ever covered was Maori.

 

At least your kid’s head is not literally off the charts.
