Remember that birthday party shooting in Alabama? It seems the patrons were startled when a speaker hit the floor. And that’s a bad thing when the whole party is better armed than Fort Benning.

The historical descriptions of the settlers who inhabited each region were fascinating.
As to your point about cities, the author referenced the CDC's "data smoothing" process, which somehow precluded the CDC from releasing county-level crime rates and instead delivered only results in groups of counties. That might explain why he didn't discuss cities very much.

Perhaps gun control advocates would do well to invoke American history regarding guns the same way that the "Constitutional carry" people do.

In many of the most unruly towns in the Old West, the town Marshall would actively force cowboys coming into town to check their guns, to leave them in the custody of the Sheriff until they were leaving town. I'm talking about the Bat Mastersons and Wyatt Earps, guys you see in the movies. In some cases you actually see this happening in the movies, the Sheriff and his deputies taking up guns, in some cases at gunpoint, forcing the just paid cowboys to give up their guns before before allowing them to blow off steam (and blow their pay) in town.

We used to understand that people running around armed meant more people getting shot, back before there was such a thing as a gun lobby spreading money around to change the law.

Without gun laws, the OK Corral would not be remembered at all.

I guess it's better to learn these things about your suitors sooner rather than later, right?
