I handle some of the social media for our association and we've tweeted exactly once in 2023, and that was just to quote tweet a USGA tweet. I've basically told our staff and board that we're done with it. Not like Instagram is some innocent place either, but we get almost all of our social engagement through Insta, which has the side benefit of crossposting to Facebook so the olds who don't have Insta can see things. But Twitter is toxic and I don't want our brand to have anything to do with it.

I've told our company the same thing. We still monitor Twitter and will reply to consumers if they @ us there. But otherwise it's no longer a going concern for our social media guy.

Ha. The only thing more unreliable than Twitter is the MTA!

It was reliable in getting all the gangs to the Bronx to see Cyrus.

TfL also dropped Twitter. Some of the big transit agencies just push people to their app for updates instead of Twitter.

Twitter is like a newspaper in the sense that it's one-stop shopping for your news. This was inevitable to some degree the more fractured society became.

Back before Elmo screwed up the algorithm, you could follow writers and people and news sources you liked. The stuff just flowed past you. Now you have to go look for it, pry it out. Sad.
