Don't tell me how much time they spent on the Met Gala.

Not sure I've ever heard a single song by him other than a clip of the Edmund Fitzgerald song.

That this RIP thread is 4 pages after just a few hours shows how popular and important he was to many.

My guess is it made the second half hour of Hour 1, especially with Patrick and Brittney Mahomes on site (I read they were there). Way more important than Lightfoot's death (i.e. ratings, of course).

Like Leonard Cohen, one of Canada's greatest poets.

    To his rest.

I enjoyed the man’s music and I’m sorry for his loss. But his death also falls under the heading of celebrity news. Maybe not in Canada, but in the States for sure.

I’m not Canadian, so my opinion isn’t golden here, but Gord definitely is on the Mount Rushmore of Canadian musical artists from the rock era.

Neil Young also is on there, and probably Joni Mitchell. Lots of other possibilities for the fourth spot …

I never knew he was Canadian.

Just nice-sounding music I grew up to. Which is all I listen to anymore . . . unless somebody pulls up beside me at a stoplight with his car shaking from the insufferable low bass playing.

If he was a young pup and died of an OD or drive-by shooting, yeah, might make A-block in the States.

Sundown, which is a fairly dark and ominous song, was about Lightfoot's tumultuous relationship with Cathy Smith, the gal who later injected John Belushi with the fatal speedball. She must have been a lot of fun to hang out with.

“Summer Side of Life” is/was a song where I always dreamed while listening to the beautiful melody and lyrics. It did that to me like very few songs. When I first heard “Black Day In July” I was stunned at the intensity and urgency of it even though I no idea what it meant. I knew it was important, though.
