    GEEZUS. Thanks for this thread. I got married on Derby Day in 1988. That means my anniversary is this week. I better hit Trader Joe's for some chocolate.

    I’ve been out of sports since ‘06 and out of papers since ‘08, so all the big events kind of sneak up on me now. Daytona, Derby, pretty much every golf and tennis slam.

    I was 4 at the time, but the Secretariat phenomenon is still incredible to this day.

    1:59 2/5 in the Derby.

    The incredible Belmont win by 31 lengths.

    Chick Anderson roaring, "He's moving like a tremendous machine!"

    Probably the greatest/most infamous horse racing photo ever of Turcotte looking back near the finish line.

    Edit/add: 2:24 flat in the Belmont.

    I’ve read that Turcotte never went to the whip in the Belmont. Big Red was in another world that day. It gives chills watching it all these years later.
