How is INXS never even in the conversation? They were every bit as relevant as Duran Duran and their music is fucking way better. Soundgarden should already be in. As should Alice in Chains. Sheryl Crow? Are you fucking kidding me? Absurd. This is some woke ass, anti cock rock shit going on here.

EDIT: And how about Gordon Lightfoot?! Never even a finalist. Ridiculous.

If any band owned the '80s it was INXS.

Folk singers have a tougher time getting in the Hall than country singers
    Dolly Parton is in
    Peter, Paul and Mary aren’t

The whole list was pretty good, so I'm not going to complain all that much about the selections...

...but the list of nominees that didn't make it is a hell of a lot stronger than the ones who did.

Miley Cyrus is eligible in 2033. Some of the "didn't make it" still won't've made it by then.

INXS didn't start charting in the US till like 1987 or '88. How did they own the entire decade?

I could probably think of a ton of bands that owned the ‘80s more than INX-fucking-S. And that’s just bands, not individual artists like Michael Jackson and Madonna. Off the top of my head:

    — GnR
    — Bon Jovi
    — U2
    — Motley Crue
    — Def Leppard
    — Van Halen
    — The Police
    — The Cure

There can be more than one band or individual who "owned" the '80s.

And Motley Fucking Crue does not belong on that list.

The correct answer to bands that owned the 80s can be summed up in four letters and a number:

    REM
    U2
