I realize that, but talent gets paid. Steve Howe was given chance after chance, and he was coked to the gills.

Yeah but if I recall correctly, Howe was generally seen as a decent guy just tormented by personal demons. He hurt his family members with his issues but he wasn't a malevolent human being. Bauer is a rock-bottom human who was barely tolerated when he was a Cy Young-caliber pitcher. Of course, it only takes one to sign him. But I won't be shocked at all if he's excised for good.

Watson got paid by the Browns, and he’s a horrible person. Baseball ain’t the NFL, obviously, but still.

Howe appeared to be putting his life back together toward the end. Was living in Lake Havasu City, Ariz., when I was there in the mid-200s (was only a fill-in in sports then), working with and keeping the scorebook for the high school team his son played on* as well as with youth leagues and the summer collegiate team. Didn't talk to him much, but was told it was very taboo to ask about his addiction. But IIRC from the wire story on his death, he had split with his wife and some drugs were found in his system postmortem.

*-covered one regional game Howe's kid pitched in against a school from Scottsdale that included the sons of Bob Brenly and Chris Speier.

Look, I’m not advocating for the guy, but I won’t be shocked if he gets a job.

If I was that woman’s dad or brother, I would have beaten Bauer to death with a baseball bat.

Oh I know you're not advocating for him. I just think he's got a longer path back to the bigs than most guys w/baggage b/c his is so uniquely toxic.

Cardinals pin 4 runs on Ohtani, including two homers. Strange.

And then the Cards give up 3 in the top of the 9th. Motherfuckers. I can’t even get really mad at this point. I never thought they would be this bad.

    Moctezuma’s revenge is real.

SF Chon’s Susan Slusser confirmed today there were some people looking real rough on that squad

Cards getting booed at home. I agree.
