I know plenty of Duran Duran fans, of course.
And I do like the song "Girls on Film." But I just never got into them.

You know their work much better than me, so of course your posts are valid, too.

The Duran Duran side project, the short-lived Arcadia, produced one of my favorite 80s tunes, "Election Day."

And my favorite Duran Duran song is probably "Union of the Snake" which I forgettably parodied last year on this site.

They always struck me as a band that women were into much more than men. Like Bon Jovi.

I was gonna date a woman until I found out she was a Duran Duran superfan.

All day, every day. I could not live that life.

This is an awesome post and I state that without any irony at all ("No shit, really?"--anyone who's had to read my drivel here for 20 years).

The Power Station was my second-ever concert. As solid as they were, they probably overextended themselves off an eight-song record that had at least one cover on it...especially once Michael DesBarres took over lead singer duties after Robert Palmer backed out to record his next solo album, ha ha, good luck with that, what, you think you're gonna record a no. 1 song accompanied by one of the great music videos of all-time? I'd like to see that!

Anyway, on our way to the show, we had one of the local top 40 stations on and they were literally giving tickets away to anyone who came to the offices. I can remember the road we were on and everything when we heard that. Even my Mom was like uhh, this may not work out all that well. They were fine enough but probably shouldn't have been doing arenas at that point.

Any doubts about Duran Duran's validity should have been erased when they broke through again w/Ordinary World. I can't think of many other--or any--'80s bands that bounced back from a late-decade dip in the middle of grunge, at least to that degree. (Of course, Meat Loaf from the '70s pulled off an even bigger comeback, but I digress) They were legit good.

Andy Taylor's best song. as @Huggy will no doubt agree, is "Take It Easy," off the American Anthem soundtrack. Because it was 1986 and Mitch Gaylord and Wayne Gretzky's future wife had to start in a movie about gymnasts. The song fucking shreds though.
