Yeah it’s time to put out the @exmediahack Bat Signal on this thread.

When I was still betting (in a legal state), if I got a tip that there was a Arizona State-USC baseball game with a line of Over 9 runs at one casino and Under 10.5 at another casino -- with minimal "juice" -- I'm probably trying to see if I can get $500 down on each side. That would have probably set off some alarms -- I've only seen CWS and super-regional lines in the past.

I've bet all sorts of sports. Korean baseball, Chinese basketball, Australian A-league soccer at 5 a.m. when there was nothing else on the board, Russian table tennis, PBR bull riding, darts, handball, first-half college basketball totals, WNBA totals, African Cup soccer.

But I won't bet tennis because of the swings and you never know when anyone is tanking.

I won't bet on horse racing or dogs because of animal cruelty concerns. (Seriously!)

I'll only bet BIG money, however, if I've already carved out an edge -- either a guaranteed payout or if I could "middle" a bet.

This being said, a buddy of mine from college lost it ALL betting on baseball. He had carved out a nice living in Las Vegas as a MAC football expert -- where he left his engineering job and did it full-time for three years. Decided to dabble in MLB in 2019 and he blew it all by the All-Star Break. Had to move back to the midwest, live with his parents and start over.

I hear you, but if you're fixing the game, what difference does the juice make?

Because you're literally trying to make pennies on the dollar while risking your career and reputation.
If you're going to fix a game, why not do it in a midweek game you're favored in against a halfway decent team like Troy or Samford or Southern Miss? A team you're probably favored against, maybe with a healthy bit of juice, and nobody will think too much of it when you give some little-used bullpen guys some work and lose 9-5?
Tanking a game you're already a heavy underdog in seems suboptimal.

I don’t know about that, after all, Lipscomb beating Arkansas the other night paid for my upcoming Derby wagers.

But if you're a dog, you're already on the "right" side to tank. And in previous scandals the fixers on the field were often getting a lump sum to do their job; it's the wiseguys who are worrying about the odds.

I'm sure the thought process in this was "betting is everywhere on everything now, so we can move some good money in the midwest on the apps and no one's gonna know." Oops.

Dude was betting in person though, right? They probably thought that made it harder to connect the dots.

Norm MacDonald loved betting on baseball and hockey. I can't imagine two worse sports.

    Sure, why not?

I assume you're not doing deep analysis of the players anyway, so what does it really matter? You could just as easily be betting on the person benefiting from the tanking.
