I stayed there 20 yrs ago around when it opened, all-suites, was hopping because the Maloofs (Sac Kings owners) owned it. Had a nice vibe. But damn, it was well off the Strip and nothing ever was filled in between Rio and the Strip so looked too far away IMHO.

Just for the record, if I was ever offered by Cooterville U. I'd sign on the spot without even making a visit.

You'll have to forgive me. An episode of "Green Acres" was in the background the evening before I posted that.

I once puked in the Eldorado, the CalNeva and Circus Circus all in one morning in Reno. Surprised I didn't get a headliners deal.

Was told by a buddy who worked at a couple of Vegas casinos for years that the draw at the Rio when it first opened was the cocktail waitress uniforms. Probably the same ones they wear now.

CalNeva in Reno or Vegas? If it was Reno, the puke explains why it smelled better than usual.

I love this because I walked this beat in my hazy 20s. And loved it. (Maybe with less puking). Couldn’t beat singe-deck blackjack at the CalNeva and $4.99 chicken and ribs at the Riverboat. Dollar craps. Playing chicken-in-the-pot at Circus Circus.

I have treasured times with friends who are now family, with a few Reno trips playing a major role.

Sad to think there’s no Awful Awful burger any longer the defunct Golden Nugget. No Oscar cooking it up.

    Yo 11.

In a related announcement, the A's signed five pitchers now scheduled to start against the Rangers and Diamondbacks this week.
