I know its just me, but I found Amy, Matt and Mattea super high on the annoying scale. Not enough to offset the brilliance of James. Hard pass for me.

Mini controversy the other night on the JV jeopardy. The correct clue was Russian writer Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn. One by one, the contestants tried to answer his last name, all giving credible efforts, only to be judged wrong by Mayim (I'm sure it was the actual judges. Based on her lagged response times, I think she relies on the judges heavily).

Jeopardy fans upset as all 3 contestants lose clue over mispronunciation of correct response

It was super lame. The show is wildly inconsistent when it comes to allowing close pronunciations of words.

They allowed Dizzy Gillespie (pronounced Je-lespie) the other night, which sort of surprised me.

Mattea's style isn't all that bothered me. There were a couple of games she should have lost if it weren't for dumb competitors . She never struck me as the great talent.

Heh. If you want to get technical about it, I'd bet 95% of Russian names are mispronounced.

"ova" --- the "o" is almost never stressed, and it's "ah", not "oh''
    words ending in "v" --- are pronounced "f". "Romanov" = "ro-MAHN-off"
    words ending in "d" --- are pronounced "t". "Leonid" = "LYEN-it"

And the stresses are all over the place.
"Vladimir" = "vloh-DEE-mir". When was the last time you heard it pronounced like that?

I am going to watch when I have time. Between work and wanting to watch the NBA, the regular Jeopardy is all I have time for.

"A lot more information about Russia than you actually wanted, for $400, Alex".

I've been surprised that Amy Schneider has not been doing better. It shows just how strong the field is.

Amy Schneider has made a cottage industry out of being Amy Schneider. Good for her. Same for Holzhauer.

Ben came back after missing a few weeks with Covid. He just blew Hannah out of the water. He could go on a very long run.

The Jeopardy Masters show continues to be great -- competitive, fast, compelling, and more human and relatable on a personal level than you might've expected with these seeming super-geniuses as the stars. And, from a gaming standpoint, it really has felt like it has been on a whole other level from the regular show. I've really enjoyed it.

Tonight was the semifinals, and the second round came down to a tie-breaker involving the number of correct answers between Mattea Roach and Andrew He. Just based on my watching, I'd have thought the winner was going to be Andrew. But it turned out to be Mattea, with 50 correct answers, compared to 45 for Andrew, and even Mattea seemed genuinely surprised.

He takes home $100,000 for his fourth-place finish, and the tournament final Wednesday night will include James Holzhauer, Matt Amodio and Roach. I'm looking forward to it.

That run she went on during the double jeopardy round Monday was the difference. She would’ve won the match (beating James) if she got final jeopardy correct.
