Pretty good recent single from Lucero:

Heard good things about them. Will have to catch a show someday.

They opened for Frank Turner on a tour just pre-pandemic. Enjoyed them.

There’s a lot of great shit on his latest album, the Horses and the Hounds. But Canola Fields might be 1A to Choctaw Bingo at No. 1.

And he also had room for a well-deserved middle finger to state government over the weekend.

I’m watching (via Nugs.net) the Dead & Company show from Cornell. It’s a song-by-song tribute to arguably the greatest Dead concert. And y’all, they are killing it so far.

Really excited for The Gaslight Anthem in Raleigh on Friday. If anyone is also attending, feel free to DM.

    Plants are backed up.

No idea if that's the case here or if he's holding it.

Again, no idea, but streaming pays shit so that could be part of it as well.

Took advantage of Live Nation's $25 concert series to snag tickets for the Toronto stops for Crowded House on May 27 and Tedeschi Trucks Band on July 13, both at Budweiser Stage, a 16-000 seat shed on the shores of Lake Ontario.. Huge fan of both artists but balked at paying full price to see them at that venue, which is far too big for both, a hassle to get to and can be a little chilly no matter the time of year.

But the missus and I couldn't pass up the chance to see them at that price. Been a while since both were here, we've seen Crowded House a few times, Neil Finn solo once and I saw Split Enz open for Tom Petty in 1981. We saw TTB in 2013 and they were incredible live. Derek Trucks is my favourite guitar player and Susan Tedeschi is no slouch either and a powerhouse singer.

Friends who saw CH at the Wiltern the other night were raving about it.

My boy Huggy, sending up the Bat Signal for me. (My most-loved band that I never saw live is Split Enz and it's not close.)

Saw Crowded House last night in Mesa. It was just a wonderful show. My seventh time seeing them, but first in 16 years.

A little background: I fell in love with two songs when I was 13 or 14 that played an enormous role in molding my musical tastes. I hate dramatic phrases like "these songs changed my life"... but that's not a wild overstatement. Those songs were "I Got You" by Split Enz and "Heroes" by David Bowie.

Last night Crowded House played BOTH.

The current lineup is Neil Finn and Nick Seymour, who are original members; Mitchell Froom, who produced and played keyboards on their early albums; and Neil's sons Elroy on drums and Liam on guitar. Having Liam is a pretty big boost because he's a damn good guitarist and sounds just like his dad.

I was worried going in that Neil might be losing his voice -- on his recent albums he tends to sing in a breathy falsetto and it's pretty bad. Happy to say his voice sounds great. It has held up remarkably well over the years.

I don't know if anyone else is experiencing this, but I'm getting more and more sentimental seeing shows and listening to music from bands I've loved for most of my life. Last night it hit me that the first time I saw Crowded House I was 20 years old and was with my then-girlfriend. I'm now 56 and have been happily married for more than 30 years (not to that girlfriend, thank god). We actually saw Crowded House on our honeymoon. I thought about that watching them play "I Got You" and "One Step Ahead" during the encore and found myself tearing up.

Anyway, great show. Huggy, be sure to get there for the opener -- it's Liam, totally solo, messing around with loops and having a great time. He's wildly talented.

Just about the only band I love as much as Crowded House is Echo and the Bunnymen. I'm seeing them in two weeks with my youngest, who is about to go off to college. They'll play "The Killing Moon" and I'll curl into the fetal position sobbing.

I think I'm going to get hit by the sentimental thing tomorrow with The Gaslight Anthem. I'm expecting it, especially if Brian Fallon is back to bantering with the audience. It's been nine years since I saw them, and really, they've been MY BAND for me in adulthood.

I saw them 13 years ago. Really great show.

It was a memorable night. I saw them at the Marquee Theater in Tempe. It’s right on Tempe Town Lake. When the show ended we walked out… and the whole goddamn lake was GONE. The dam burst during the show.
