Whatever the organization, the fact that he is a Marine veteran isn't relevant in the headline.

 

My father always gently corrected people that he is a Marine, not was in the Marines.

 

At the time, stories noted that Lee Harvey Oswald had been a Marine, but it wasn't in the headlines.

But they can't muster the in-your-face steam necessary, fearing they'll come across as the "unhinged reporter whom Trump played like a fiddle." So they just calmly hit him with a fact, which he then deflects into an outright lie, and then he just runs with it.
