He's only 83? Jackie's been around forever, figured he was in his 90s.

The blackout on race day is part of life in Indianapolis. I listened to many 500s on the radio broadcast - and watched the televised replay later - when we didn't have tickets. I think everyone will be OK. I'm sure it's been nice the few times in recent years where it wasn't blacked out, but it's not a big deal.

On a side note: I'm enjoying the bit of controversy over F1 using the "Greatest Spectacle in Motorsports" line again on Sunday after having been previously warned off about it by IMS after they used that same slogan to promote the Las Vegas race. Would love to see a good IP lawsuit over it.

The original Sid Collins line was "Greatest Spectacle in Racing." Can IMS claim "motorsports" too? Dunno.

Here's what pisses me off about the blackout: my 90-year-old father-in-law, on his last laps so to speak, lives with us and last year we were able to watch the 500 live after ponying up the $8 or whatever for Peacock. Living in Indy, that seemed like a fair tradeoff. We paid for it! But the reason we could watch is that IMS/NBC hadn't figured out a way to geofence Peacock for central Indiana. Now apparently they have, which just feels like a level of spite that's silly. Sure, we'll watch at night and all, but c'mon IMS.

Billy Scott, crew chief on 23XI’s car for Tyler Reddick, was ejected from Darlington after the car failed inspection twice. Normally, the car chief would be ejected.

    Penalty announcement day is Tuesday.

Indy 500 practice on Peacock AND the Tigers playing a day game AND I'm retired. What the hell could be better than this?

My thoughts heading into tomorrow's time trials for the 500. (And yes, it's not qualifying at Indianapolis, no matter how many times NBC gets it wrong.)

The wind's going to blow opposite of today's direction tomorrow, meaning Turns 1 and 2 are going to be sketchy. Sunny and cool.

So I'm guessing a 230 mph average should be safe to avoid the Last Row shenanigans on Sunday. I think 232 mph makes the Fast 12. Dixon hasn't shown his hand today and I think he's got 233.5 mph hiding somewhere, as may someone in the Ed Carpenter Racing stable.

Here's my best guess for the Fast 12:

    Ganassi: Dixon, Sato
    McLaren: O'Ward, Rossi, Ericsson, Palou
    Andretti: Kirkwood, Herta
    Penske: Power
    Carpenter: Veekay, Carpenter
    Foyt: Ferrucci

Cam Ilott is in thrash mode. The Juncos team is abandoning his primary car because it's been nothing but evil, pulling out a brand-new Dallara with zero miles and may not even get him on the track tomorrow.

    Daytona, the Derby, Indy 500.

I never realize they’re upcoming except reading it on SJ. I’m not sure if that says more about the sports or me. Maybe both.
