I was very surprised that James got credit for one of his answers Tuesday night. His response was "the ark," and the answer was "the ark of the convenant."

To me, there's a big difference between "the ark," and "the ark of the convenant," even if, as I guess producers must have decided, they knew what James meant. Especially since there is an actual floating ark that is also key to the Bible. Considering that contestants often are penalized for mispronunciations, misspellings, or being a letter off on answers in Jeopardy, this overlook was surprising. It might not have made any real difference to the outcome of the game, but still...

A misspelling took down Ben Chan yesterday.

That was an awful FJ, but he had been playing with fire.

What the hell are the rules? I've seen misspellings and/or deliberate horrible handwriting to hide a misspelling count.

It’s pretty unclear. I think that where a misspelling is actually another answer (like yesterday) it is incorrect. A more benign misspelling is overlooked.

I was surprised Mattea advanced, too — I thought the tiebreaker might be points accumulated in the three semifinals.

But I guess they previously established it would be number of correct answers.

It was also interesting to hear her tribute to her father, who apparently died recently. As you mentioned, we Jeopardy! nerds have gotten to know more about these trivia masters during this event, and it’s added to it.

They tied 2-2 in the semifinals, right?

Mattea has toned down the nervous tics and faces and comments, it seems. I’d be nervous AF if I also were on a run like she was a year or two ago.

Didn't he repeat the answer with 'of the covenant '?

The pronunciation is key. Andrew He wrote 'Golden Hinde' in Final Jeopardy, which was allowed.

No, it was Ken Jennings who said, "Yes, the ark of the convenant" back after James had said, "the ark."

If it doesn’t exist already, someone needs to make a YouTube or TikTok video of Jeopardy! contestants jamming away at the buzzer in frustration. The guy in the middle tonight is a good example.
