Trea Turner culminates a comeback from 5-0 down with a two-run homer in bottom 9; Phils win in 10th. Have to see if that turns things around for Turner, who has admitted himself that he's "sucked" so far.

Didn't James briefly work for the Red Sox? I do not recall his work for them being cited much, even though his consultancy was always meant to be kept close to the vest. I've just never read anyone with the organization saying, "Yeah, Bill James was the secret sauce for us during our quasi-dynasty." You can argue Jazayerli and Neyer have been better read than James. Neyer even had a TV gig. James set it in motion from a bean factory but others ran with it farther. His tweet sucked because he still thinks he's this Zeusian figure whose evaluation of a player is ironclad. And the old abstracts had plenty of bombast and blowhardedness.

The entire A.L. Central should be relegated.

He worked there for SEVENTEEN years...never would have guessed it was that long without looking it up. It certainly seems as if he was retained that long b/c he was a pet of John Henry. This BLOG piece from one of our faves indicates he fell out of favor w/Theo & Co., which is no surprise b/c Theo has no use for anyone once he feels he's outgrown him (ask Larry Lucchino).

Boy, I’m sure glad the Cardinals paid for the elite pitching of Steven Matz. 32 pitches and four runs given up in the first to the fucking Reds.

Fate saved the Mets from themselves w/Matz (apparently he was ready to sign but bolted at the last second to St. Louis) and Correa.

Matz was pretty maddening. Could have very good stuff or get bombed. Not a lot of in between. And he was hurt a lot.

As I recall, Steve Cohen thought Matz was going to sign with the Mets. When he didn't, he called the agent dishonest or some such on twitter. And then Cohen signed Max Scherzer for a bazillion dollars (with fair to middling results so far).

Matz has the same problem pretty much all the other Cards’ starters do: He can’t reliably put away batters when he gets two strikes. Opponents foul off pitch after pitch, bloating the pitch count and leading to short starts. And that affects the relievers who get pushed too often and are burned out by the season’s last month. I’ve seen this shit from the Cards since 2013, but, hey, they’re making bank.

I never would have guessed that. I wrongly assumed he was purged after the chicken and beer September.

I didn't even think he'd lasted that long.

Per his Wiki (reliable as always, I'm sure), he was credited with signing Ortiz and Bellhorn, which is exactly the type of thing that would get one squeezed out of Golden Boy Theo's inner circle.

Brewers threatening to move if taxpayers don't cough up, like, $300M for stadium reno.

Where would they move? Quebec? Columbus? Oakland?

    lol
