AI is like teenage sex at this point. Everybody talks about it, but nobody really knows how to do it. But they all think everyone else is doing it, so everyone claims they're doing it.

A writer friend who was in the Nashville music industry for three decades, and wrote-worked in L.A. before that, this week asked an AI chat deal to write him a country music song. He gave it a theme, or title - something like "Heartbroken Over You" - and I guess a couple of keywords or suggestions.

Within a minute or two he said it spat out a four-verse song including a chorus. Said someone could easily take that, put music to it and probably get it published.

All artistic creators will be impacted.

My belief is we will start to value any art that is clearly not AI. So, a really shitty band that misses cues, whose drummer can’t keep time and whose singer is atonal will become valued. Writers who clumsily shift point of view or have plot inconsistencies will be seen as lovably human.

I think AI will create very slick, safe versions of everything. But can it fail beautifully?

It could be punk’s rise all over again.
