Virgil Trucks? I know he had two no-hitters one year in the early 50s for a really lousy Tigers team.

No. This man pitched one of the most famous games in World Series history (not the most famous0, which probably gives it away.

    Nope.

It's now afternoon on the East Coast, so ...

Howard Ehmke, of the Boston Red Sox. On September 7, 1923, he no-hit the Philadelphia A's at Shibe Park. On Sept. 11, he one-hit the Yankees at Yankee Stadium. Only one hit allowed in back-to-back 9-inning complete games is still the AL record.

Both games had oddities. In the first, A's pitcher Slim Hariss hit an apparent double in the sixth inning but was called out for missing first base. In the second no-hitter, leadoff batter Whitey Witt was awarded a base hit on a rather routine ground ball that was muffed by the third baseman. The official scorer would not change his decision.

Ehmke had two hits in the first game and was 3-for-4 in the second and drove in the winning run.

Ehmke is best remembered for Game 1 of the 1929 series, when as a surprise starter he struck out a then-record 13 Cubs while leading the A's to a 3-1 win.

Thanks for the question and answer, but how did Slim Harris bat in the first?

I think he meant in the first of the two games.

    This pitcher:

    * Lost the final game at Ebbetts Field

    * Lost the final game at Griffith Stadium

    * Won the first game at DC Stadium

    * Was in the visiting dugout for the final NY Giants game at the Polo Grounds

Who is this Forrest Gump of MLB?

Bennie Daniels. A pretty decent pitcher for the bad Senators teams of the early 1960s.
