    Oh yes, my shitty senator from New York State, who defeated Dick Ottinger (I think) in 1970 to fill RFK's old seat. Or maybe he beat Charles Goodell, Roger's dad.

    Correct on both accounts. There were three candidates in that race: Buckley ran on the Conservative ticket defeating the Democrat Ottinger (who easily topped JFK speechwriter Ted Sorensen in the primary) and Republican Charles Goodell.
