“Unless he was totally crossed up but I don’t think he was…”

dude, the catcher was expecting the ball down. Pitcher threw a high fastball. He missed it because the pitcher threw the wrong pitch.

What a helluva play. Judge is absolutely THAT guy. Funny thing, runner on first base was awarded second base because Judge left the field of play when he crashed through the gate. Didn’t end up mattering but a rare, super-interesting call.

Haase, who is closing in on 1,000 career Major League ABs, has put together a decent role for a guy who was always a marginal talent and is local (went to Dearborn Divine Child) but that bat needs to come around quick because he's mostly in the Gary Sanchez Realm of Catchers Who Aren't Here For the Glove.

    Interesting manager note from Saturday:

Dusty Baker tied Bucky Harris for seventh on the all-time wins list (2,158) same day Bruce Bochy tied Walter Alston for 10th (2,040)

When a player catches a ball in-play and carries it out-of-play, the play is dead and every runner is awarded one base. So Judge regaining his balance and his immediate throw after he went OOP were neat to watch, but irrelevant. The play was dead the moment he broke through the gate.

Oakland just laid a five-spot on Sandy Alcantara in the third inning. There's got to be something physically wrong there.

Some Yankee fans are chapped because the gate gave way, sending Judge into the bullpen and allowing an extra base. Maybe they've have been happier if it would have stayed in place and hurt him, instead of giving way and softening the impact of the collision.
