Through 86 years of perpetual motion
If he likes you he’ll smile and he’ll say
“Jimmy, some of it's magic, some of it's tragic
But I had a good life all the way”

I like the same line (which comes right before what I mentioned) but interpret it vastly different.
I've always envisioned it not giving her freedom. It's him saying, "See ya Don't need ya." and going on with his life.

INCREDIBLY underrated tune. One of my all-time favorites.

That song pretty much sums up the 80s. Still love it and have seen post MAW Colin Hay live twice. Well worth the trip. As for that scene, Stephen Bishop and John Belushi did it better. #GenerationalBias

    Lines stand out and stick.

From Mumford & Sons' "I Will Wait For You:"

So raise my hands and paint my spirit gold.

He certainly has the talent but some of it is just timing and/or luck. Bruce was on his way to obscurity at 23 because his first record was poorly produced and didn’t sell and then his second record received no promotion. He had the fortune that the son of the new head of the record company was a fan and gave his father an article from his college paper where Bruce complained that he didn’t get a fair shake. Then Jon Landau wrote the review of his live show which became the 1974 version of viral. So the record company decided to devote resources and PR to what became Born to Run

That song is just top to bottom wonderful.

My city's still breathing, but barely, it's true
Through buildings gone missing like teeth
The sidewalks are watching me think about you
    Sparkled with broken glass
I'm back with scars to show
Back with the streets I know
Will never take me anywhere but here

    A few favorites…

    The Pernice Brothers, “Working Girls”

Contemplating suicide or a graduate degree
    Answers "how's it goin'?" with
I feel sullen, I feel sullen, I feel seventeen

    Frank Turner, “Polaroid Picture”

Let go of the little distractions
Hold close to the ones that you love
Cause we won't all be here this time next year
So while you can, take a picture of us

    Bob Dylan, “Positively 4th Street”

I wish that for just one time you could stand inside my shoes
You'd know what a drag it is to see you

Jason Isbell, “If We Were Vampires”

If we were vampires and death was a joke
We'd go out on the sidewalk and smoke
And laugh at all the lovers and their plans
I wouldn't feel the need to hold your hand
Maybe time running out is a gift
I'll work hard 'til the end of my shift
And give you every second I can find
And hope it isn't me who's left behind

Two that hit me hard with visuals:
Jimmy Buffett - Son of a son of a sailor.
Son of a gun, load the last ton, one step ahead of the jailer.
It puts me on a dock, loading illegal cargo, casting off all lines just as the law reaches the head of the pier, and sailing off into the night.
Gene Watson - 14 Karat Mind
Laying by these railroad tracks in Denver, with a hurting head and a half a pint of wine.
I've never been to Denver nor passed out by any railroad tracks, but it hits me every time.

Oh, and pretty much every single lyric to You'll Never Leave Harlan Alive, most especially:

Granny sold out cheap and they moved out west of Pineville
To a farm where Big Richland River winds
And I bet they danced them a jig
And they laughed and sang a new song
"Who said we'd never leave Harlan alive"
But the times they got hard and tobacco wasn't sellin'
And old granddad knew what he'd do to survive
He went and dug for Harlan coal
And sent the money back to granny
But he never left Harlan alive
