Surprised they didn't wait until Friday at noon to announce those.

Hell they wanted to wait until all the games were done today and then they realized Tennessee-Southern Miss is gonna end like 1:30 a.m.

They always play at 2 and 7 EST the first weekend in Omaha, so the only real question was who was in what bracket. Once both of the series on that side of the bracket went to a third game, it really wasn't a question any more.

They knew that yesterday/last night and someone asked the CWS Twitter account and they said they would announce it tonight.

Oof. That is a brutal way to have your season end, especially that close to getting to the CWS.

If I didn't hate the Longhorns, I'd feel bad for them.

Southern Miss is a dead team walking. They just haven't been able to do anything more than sneak a few singles through the infield this whole game, and I doubt they're going to do any damage against a dude throwing 102 out of the bullpen. Drew Beam's sliders were looking like Wiffle balls all night.
Their last best chance (first and third, no outs, no runs out of it) probably just passed.

So Southern Miss has hosted five SR games the past two years and has/will get shut out in three of them.

The announcers have mentioned it several times, but the biggest play of this weekend was yesterday in Game 2. Southern Miss scored four runs in a span of four pitches to go up 4-0, and the next batter hit a rocket down the third base line. Tennessee third baseman dives to snag it, comes up and throws the batter out. Saved a double. The bases were empty, but it might have chased Tennessee's ace from the game. Instead he got out of the inning without any more damage, guy hits a 479-foot three-run homer the next inning, and the Vols rough up USM's ace while scoring eight unanswered.
If that ball gets through, Southern Miss might sweep this thing. Alas.

Classy move by Tennessee to pause their celebration and join the fans in giving Scott Berry a standing ovation.

What are the odds of LSU outdrinking the combined field?
