This speculation is foolishness. Barring health calamity, Biden will run unopposed for the nomination by any serious Democrat. Harris will be his VP choice. And should said calamity take place, Harris will then become incumbent President and the party will unite behind her. Parties split from incumbents only due to serious issues. The only issue Democrats have with Biden is his age. That's not enough. And Biden will never never drop Harris from the ticket unless she robs a bank or something. Without the support of black women voters, he'd never have gotten the nomination in 2020 in the first place.

The only part I disagree with is that the party stays united behind Harris. If she became President this time next year, then yeah. If Biden gets eaten by a shark off Rehoboth Beach next month, it’s everybody back in the pool.

The 'rally 'round the flag' effect of a VP taking office on a President's death, incapacitation, etc. is considerable. Hell, even Ford took office with 90 percent approval ratings after Nixon's resignation. And if he hadn't pardoned Nixon, he'd have won in 1976.

I almost wonder if you keep Harris, not because she brings anything to the table politically (she never was a favorite of black Democratic voters in pre-primary polling, forcing her to drop out), but because you don't want to offend those very same voters who rejected her in 2019.

Backward move. If she's governor she can argue that she's better positioned to be president down the road.

She'll never get dropped from the ticket. It'll have to be her "walking away."

It is weird seeing Newsom doing Hannity though - almost seems like the party poobahs are having him out there similar to how cable news shows bring someone in for a week while a host is on vacation just in case they need to make a move down the road. I always thought if Biden does decide not to run again - he'd make the announcement by August (I don't care if he already said he's running, the debt deal was up in the air - now there isn't much left for Congress to do for the next 18 month but do fake hearings and investigations).

There’s always next year’s budget, a.k.a. the thing we’ve had actual shutdowns over, not just threats.
