I know two people who have it. It can't be all that rare.

What is a physician's responsibility once they've run every test and declared, "I cannot find anything wrong with you."?

Still don't care how it originated. Let them argue over that in the history books. How about caring for the people who are sick now?

Hell of a lot of investigation into something that we were told was just a less dangerous flu.

What about understanding the origin of the virus so we can prevent future epidemics? It's not an academic exercise for historians.

    This.

I’m irritated it’s become a political issue (or a way to hock a book) but it’s something we need to know.

You know that train that derailed and poluted the area around it. You don't care how it happened, you just care about any people affected?

I don't think we are likely to know the origins of the virus. The Chinese will never be transparent. But I think we all have a stake in it and we should be trying to find out as much as we empirically can. Let's say that a virology lab was careless in its handling of a novel coronavirus and it led to a devastating pandemic. If you knew that to be the case, you wouldn't want to try to get as much of the world as possible collaborating on protocols to try to keep it from happening again?

How about whether we know or not, every such lab should review their standards and procedures, and whoever inspects those rules should be more anal and demanding about their enforcement. This seems elementary.
