What does that mean? The person writes at NYT or The Washington Post? The person espouses the opinion you agree with?

I'm not attacking anyone's opinion on what Rogan has said. I won't defend what he has said regarding this issue. But what is the definition of who is able to advance am opinion?

There are MD's who will advance anti-vax arguments. How is challenging Rogan on his lack of education or the fact that he has a lot of podcast listeners relevant?

Are we screaming about some guy on a local 10,000 watt AM station?

Every one of us here has opinions, and depending on the subject, they are of varying degrees of validity and expertise. Thing is that we're guys on a message board, not playing Thought Leader like Tucker Carlson. Rogan has that sort of sway over a very large audience, so when he is ill informed (or outright wrong) there will be many people who take it as fact. He's not an expert commenting on one field,, he's covering all sorts of wide ranging topics without necessarily having a well rounded education. There *will* be topics discussed on his show that he really does not know much about. In this case, I think there is reason to doubt his expertise in infectious medicine.

    A couple of points.

I don't think Rogan's effective audience is as great as people think. The talk about him probably outclasses his direct influence.

Whatever you think about his audience, it's not monolithic. Just because someone listens to his podcast doesn't mean they agree with his thoughts.

I stated this somewhere else. Focusing on a single person's views is meaningless. The real discussion is about the general discussion.

The SP rabbit hole is almost as dangerous as the oop rabbit hole.

    Best never to tread.

Agree. The comparison to Tucker is only somewhat valid. His audience self selects for Fox Republican adherence, and he broadcasts into a silo. Rogan is a lot less homogeneous. He still has millions of listeners, and some percentage of them will parrot what they hear him say, though. He has some influence. How much? Who knows, day to day.

If millions of people are turning to him to make sense of the world, he has a responsibility to be well informed and to know enough that he can challenge someone like RFK, Jr. on his shit instead of just saying “Oh, that’s interesting.”
Or better yet, not give RFK, Jr. a platform.
ABC did the right thing when they edited out. RFK, Jr.’s antivax shit when they interviewed him.
Maybe if he spent more than one week in college he would have known that.

I just think Rogan should be a data point in a larger discussion. Every opinion a person with whom you disagree doesn't merit a debate or prove some larger point.

Again, what does that mean? What does 'responsibility' mean and who decides it?

How many of people who didn't go to college had a 'voice'? Pete Hamill didn't have much of an education, but people read him.

I don't want some dismissal of Rogan that is he didn't go to college.

Why do I need anything else?

Tucker has a degree and I have no use for him either.

    So is a degree validating?

    Not necessarily.
