I’ll be working in Falls Church at the Defense Health Headquarters. My new gig will be on the Army Surgeon General’s staff. And looking at housing prices, we may be farther west than Fairfax!!!

We’re looking around Burke and Annandale, right now.

Lynchburg sounds like it might be the sweet spot. Tomorrow night we’ll stop in Greensboro to catch a game. Might head north and follow 29.

If you want to go to a brewery, Devil's Backbone is probably the most highly regarded. Never had it, but if people talk about a place in Nowheresville, VA it should be good. I think AB InBev bought it.

Lynchburg's downtown has grown considerably since I left eight years ago. I'll actually be heading there for a week on Sunday for our Amateur championship.

Stop at Smiley's Truckstop BBQ in Raphine, Va. and pick up a sandwich and a Baptist sermon on CD... or just a sandwich.

I used to walk drunk through the VMI campus at 1:00 am. Surprised I was never stopped. Not a lot to see, but they had a cool baseball field with a hill overlooking it. The parents would sit up there with red Solo cups. I think I saw one of the last baseball games Howard University played.

    HEY!

Depends - the original DB is at the bottom of Wintergreen’s mountain, just slightly off of Route 151.

Then continue north on 151 to the Blue Mountain Brewery, which is below Afton mountain. Their signature IPA is called Full Nelson. Another good one is the Kolsch 151. Good restaurant there too.

Also, if you drive over to Lynchburg from 81, make sure your brakes are good. I used to be a passenger in a car driven by a guy who didn't understand you don't drive hard into curves, you drive hard out of them.

If you have enough flexibility, you could detour through the real West By God, then cut over on I-64. Either go rafting or check out the freshly-promoted New River Gorge National Park.

Didn't they lose more people (or a higher percentage of their population) than any other town during the invasion?
