    Now, that's the pitchbot.

Yeah, I kind of saw that coming when I made my original post. My point being it may not be a win to replace a knucklehead with a larger, more violent knucklehead, but it sounds like he was calling the justification for attacking Ukraine to be a lie, so maybe he'd actually shut it down if given a chance.

It’s heel vs. heel here. The hope is that they kick each other‘a ass and Ukraine benefits.

The rogue mercenary leader doesn't have much sense of opsec apparently. He's telling the Russians what he's going to do. Imagine Eisenhower telling Hitler he was going to hit Omaha Beach.

If Putin does come down, what is the replacement? Just another bunch of oligarch thugs or a chance at democracy?

I think he’s hoping for other Russians to join him. The calls were basically I’m going in to kill this one guy, everyone get out of my way.

And Hitler knew. His mistake was sleeping in the day of the invasion and had his generals so scared no one dared make a move for reinforcements until he woke up.

This is neither here nor there, but the NYT quoted a Ukrainian whose apartment building was hit by shrapnel named Volodymyr Kuts, and I immediately flagged on that being the name of a Ukrainian Olympic champion distance runner from the 50s. He died in 1975.

Paris 2024 can't come soon enough.

What if… there is some back-channel involvement here and Wagner is, quietly, helping the Ukrainians?

Or maybe this is just another Russian false flag operation. Doubtful, but who knows.

My question is why any other option is better? Prighozim doesn't seem like a guy to lead a liberal democratic state.

The take seems to be that he's looking to depose the Minister of Defense, who he has been feuding with for some time. He and Putin go back to the 90's. Unlikely he has the juice to take on Putin directly. Maybe after he's been MoD for a while and puts some of his people in.
