Their recent efforts seem to be indeed attuned to that direction, although it's hard to say because Liberty has yet to cross over into big-time athletics.

Their previous aspiration in the 1990s seemed to be to become the Notre Dame of mainstream Protestantism. That has been since largely appropriated by Baylor University. There is little attached to Liberty these days to watch that is mainstream.

 

They can't die soon enough.
