A Chicago fan favorite when he was with Anaheim, the Blackhawks trade a seventh-rounder next year for Corey Perry. He's a UFA Saturday, but Kyle Davidson said he hopes to sign him.
EDIT: Done. Either Friday or Thursday ... cannot remember.

Didn't mention it earlier but David Poile's send off was pretty cool. Chip off his pop's block.

NHL free agency will begin today at 12 p.m. Eastern time.
Particularly curious who will sign Vladimir Tarasenko, especially the term.

In other news, Mike Babcock's contract with Toronto ends, thus he officially begins in Columbus.

Blake Wheeler and Jonathan Quick to the Rangers.

I am really surprised about Wheeler. I know he's old, but he clearly wanted to come to NY (probably b/c of Trouba) to take that contract (which is about all Drury could afford w/the mess he's made of the cap). He's exactly what the Rangers need, provided he doesn't go south all at once.

Nashville signs Ryan O’Reilly to a four-year, $18-million contract. That's a win-win deal, IMHO. Damn near perfect guy to help lead the re-direct.

    Per Sportsnet:
The Ottawa Senators made a big splash in free agency by agreeing to a five-year, $20-million contract with goaltender Joonas Korpisalo on Saturday.
The move gives the Senators some confidence in net after years of patchworking the position, including using seven goaltenders last season.
The contract breaks down as follows, according to the team: $4 million in 2023-24, $5M in 2024-25, $4.5M in 2025-26, $3.5M in 2026-27 and $3M in 2027-28.
Korpisalo, an eight-year veteran, was widely considered to be the best goaltender available on the free-agent market.
Last season split between the Kings and Blue Jackets, the 29-year-old had a .914 save percentage and 2.87 goals-against average in 39 appearances.

Is that how Sportsnet defines “big splash”?

Five years, at what is decent money, is a huge bet for a guy who has struggled at times in his career.

He had a good year, last year, but his track record makes that contract risky.

I think that is why they were saying Ottawa made a splash. ... the fact that they were willing to give him that term at that money.

Ok. I guess when I think “big splash” I think of deals where people go “Wow, Ottawa’s serious.” I don’t think a Korpisalo signing is making too much of a splash.

Well, maybe STL will let him come back with hat in hand. :)

Defenseman Matt Dumba still available, too. That's a guy who would help a contender or up-and-coming contender if he's willing to accept his role in the team's D pecking order. I don't recall the particulars of the situation with Evason and healthy scratches. Seemed like a good guy in the room. Likely a team-friendly deal.

Seravalli tweeting that John Gibson will never play for Anaheim again. He has also tweeted the opposite in the past. I'm trying to figure out what happened in the past few days that would make Gibson do this now.
