This year was the second year in a row no named storms formed before June 1, after seven years in a row of at least one preseason*** storm.

***An old editor would have demanded they be called exhibition storms. :)

Bret is booking it due west and is targeting Nicaragua. Still a TS, luckily, which is apparently why there aren't many maps to link to.

Cindy is also a minimal TS and is bending north. Right now it doesn't look like a major threat to the Atlantic Seaboard.

Cindy has been forecast as a fish storm the entire time.

And hopefully she passes on through quickly and doesn't cause a bunch rip currents and nasty weather next weekend.

    Well, that sucks.

    https://www.usatoday.com/story/news...ne-season-forecast-risk-upgraded/70387805007/

Top forecasters from Colorado State University upgraded their hurricane predictions for 2023 and are now calling for a "borderline hyperactive" season in the Atlantic basin, with as many as nine hurricanes expected to form.
The upgrade is due primarily to extremely warm ocean water in the Atlantic where storms like to form, forecasters said. The warm Atlantic should counteract the hurricane-snuffing impacts of El Niño.
The CSU team now predicts 18 named storms this season, of which nine will be hurricanes. Of those nine, four are expected to be major hurricanes .
