    RIP Nikki McCray-Penson.
Former Tennessee women's star who later had head coaching gigs at Old Dominion and Mississippi State. She was only 51.
No cause of death given, although she had a history of breast cancer and stepped down from her job at Mississippi State right before the start of the 2021 season because of health issues.

Champion player, coach McCray-Penson, 51, dies

Friend of mine was her high school teammate. Used to rave about how absolutely unstoppable she was. Terrible news.

Two years ago, Mississippi State's summer coaches caravan passed through our town. The two featured speakers were Nikki McCray-Penson and Mike Leach. Weird.

    Not exactly a strong-ass schedule.

Mississippi University for Women has seven men's sports team. Probably should consider a name change if your school for women is that co-ed.

Baby steps. They used to be called the Industrial Institute and College for the Education of White Girls, so it's still an improvement.
