I remember that James Wilder did set the record at one point (which is probably why Capt. Kirk guessed him), so it has be someone who played in the late 1980s or beyond. I'm going to guess Adrian Peterson (in the game where he broke the single-game rushing yards record, perhaps?)

My first thought was Larry Johnson, who set the record for most carries in a season.

Is it Timmy Smith of the Redskins?
I remember somebody from that era's Redskins had 40+ carries against the Bengals in a Saturday afternoon.

Dang. I know it's a guy who did pretty much nothing else his entire career other than that game and a couple of other 100-yard games, but for the life of me I can't put my finger on his name.

EDIT: Check that. Looked it up, and he did even less than that. A third of his career rushing yards were in this game and one other 100-yard game (when he got 100 on the nose) the following season. And almost half of his career carries came in three games, including one in which he had 38 the year after he set the record.
    Talk about a one-hit wonder.

Indeed....the appropriately obscure former Wolverine Jamie Morris.

I’d guess Rickey Henderson or Jimmie Foxx, but they’re probably too obvious.
