I ate at the Guy Fieri Mexican restaurant in the Rio in Las Vegas when I was there in March and it was exactly what you would expect a Mexican restaurant run by Guy Fieri to be: sizzling hot fajitas with chips and salsa served with.............Spin Doctors and all of that mid-90s butt rock playing.

    Probably nothing.

But even more important than (John) Kelly’s assessment of the former president’s character are the concerns he’s raised about Trump’s abuses while in office. Last fall, the week before Thanksgiving, Kelly told The New York Times that Trump, during his presidency, told his chief of staff to use the Internal Revenue Service and the Justice Department to target his critics and perceived political foes. …

The significance of the report did not linger — it was overshadowed by a series of other Trump scandals — but Kelly’s allegations struck me as incredibly important. In the midst of Republican hysterics about the Biden White House “weaponizing” and “politicizing” federal law enforcement — allegations that appear to have no basis in fact — here was the former president’s longest serving chief of staff explaining on the record that Trump engaged in the precise abuse that he’s falsely accused his successor of engaging in.

Over the weekend, the allegations returned to the fore, and for good reason. The New York Times reported on Saturday:

John F. Kelly, who served as former President Donald J. Trump’s second White House chief of staff, said in a sworn statement that Mr. Trump had discussed having the Internal Revenue Service and other federal agencies investigate two F.B.I. officials involved in the investigation into his campaign’s ties to Russia. Mr. Kelly said that his recollection of Mr. Trump’s comments to him was based on notes that he had taken at the time in 2018. Mr. Kelly provided copies of his notes to lawyers for one of the F.B.I. officials, who made the sworn statement public in a court filing.

What does this have to do with Kelly’s allegations? According to the retired general, Trump sought to use federal law enforcement against several perceived foes — including Strzok.

It was against this backdrop that Kelly said under oath that Trump discussed using powerful federal agencies to go after the former senior FBI official. What’s more, according to the Times’ report, which has not been independently verified by MSNBC or NBC News, Kelly has contemporaneous notes related to the incident.

Not to put too fine a point on this, but it’s not every day when a former White House chief of staff implicates a former president — under penalty of perjury — in an impeachable offense.

On Fieri: Traveling around the country visiting all of the weird hole-in-the-wall restaurants would be high on my list of ideal ways to spend my remaining years.

not the writing. That’s some “Sound of Freedom” really shouldn’t even be allowed to exist” rationalization. The plot of Sound of Freedom sounds a hell of a lot like Taken. I don’t recall “with all the problems in the world, Taken exaggerates the wrong one” treatise.

Specifically went to the Good Dog bar in Center City after seeing the episode with them and their duck pot pie highlighted. They've since taken the pot pie off the menu because they got tired of there being a rush of people coming in and asking for it every year and a half or so because the rerun had just aired again.

My wife and I watch Triple D religiously, but I don't guess I've ever actually made it to any of the places he's featured. Apparently the bump in business those places get is crazy.

I’ve not seen evidence Fieri and Trump were actually hanging out together. More like bumped into each other at a public event.

Also, too, when I travel I use Triple D and True South to choose my restaurants. I’ve not had a bad meal yet.

The pictures at the fight of the two of them talking at the fight makes it look quite friendly.

In one Trump has has a gaze that's, ugh.

I'm aware of all the good works the Mayor has done, that his late sister was gay, etc.

He's the face of Food Network. He's positioning one of his sons as a talent there. Sorry, but no TV mojo found with the son.

I'm not clutching my pearls over them talking at the fight.

Trump could shoot and kill someone on the street and a third of the country would be cool with it. It was a throwaway line when he said it, but now it's fact.

This is how things roll in 2023.
