It reminds me of something tweeted by Ellie Stefanik, who rose to great power by going from being a relatively reasonable GOP member of Congress to full MAGA. After the GOP took the House, she tweeted along the lines if “now that we have the majority, tell me something which we can do to hurt the Biden agenda”. The point is not to be constructive, it’s to be a performative asshole.

 

Which is why being in the minority works better for these folks. There they can rave to their heart's content with no worries. In the majority, they fuck over their own colleagues as much as they do the opposition. A stronger Speaker than McCarthy would have taken his members who believe in at least doing the minimum to keep the government running and formed an as hoc coalition government with the Democrats. He did that on the debt ceiling and it worked like a charm, but apparently one act of common sense and minimal courage was all he could muster.

 

That's the MAGA playbook.

Which is why when the GOP had the White House, the Senate and the House during Trump's first two years it still couldn't do shit constructively.
