Heard a cool stat on the radio today: In the 1970s, Gaylord Perry was more likely to throw 9 or more innings than he was to be pulled before the 6th inning. Given how rare the complete game has become, it sparked a conversation about how it’s nearly unheard of to go beyond 9.

Since 1995, a pitcher has thrown 9.1 innings or more (meaning he must have recorded an out in the 10th) just 13 times.

1) who was the last one to accomplish the feat
And
2) who is the only one to do it twice?

 

Cliff Lee did it within the last decade. Not sure if he was the last to do it or not.
