IIRC, anyone who has a speaking part in a production -- movie, TV show, commercial, whatever -- has to become a member. Think of how many lines of dialogue are put on camera in a given year, and it adds up quickly. There are probably a lot of people who are union members who wouldn't consider themselves professional actors.

I golfed recently with a stagehand who got a bit part in a streaming series he was crewing. He had no lines as that would have been SAG territory, but then again he was a member of two stagehand unions.

Some of the older, legacy big-market radio station were also AFTRA members. Think WCBS in New York. Not a huge number, but they get lumped into the overall number.

The last time SAG went on strike was 1980. That was the "Who Shot J.R.?" year. Quite a cliffhanger, huh?

I know the late-night shows are in repeats, but really, Tonight show? A Christmas show? What is this, Hallmark Channel?
