I landed in the same place. Found it entertaining and a worthy final act. And a lot of fun. Which is the point

Feels like a ton of negativity was a loosely organized internet mob of incels and anti-Disney maga types. And throw in the large contingent that will hate anything Kathleen Kennedy is associated with, and that makes a pretty hateful online stew. It’s happened before.

Outside of a few rare instances, the era of huge box office numbers might be over. The theater is expensive and it’s easy to wait to stream stuff at home.

Hope I’m wrong. I love going to the movies and some things are meant to be seen/shared on the big screen.

Having seen the trailer for the movie about 97 times in the past year and having read everything about it I was already counting down the day to seeing this and seems like it's going to live up to my expectations:

Hoping to actually feel like I'm enjoying Summer, so I think I'll see a movie this week, buy a big bag of popcorn and a large soda and chill out. What should I see? It will be a matinee for sure. Side note - I love going to movies, and I like beer. But I don't know if I love drinking beer at a movie when it is available - unless its thematically appropriate.

PS - Barbie is marketing the shit out of that movie - I've seen ads on TV using the movie to sell pretty much anything and they even got HGTV to do a Barbie Dreamhouse makeover thing - my question is this - will anyone who isn't white go to see this movie? It's like the whitest movie since Elizabeth, or The Queen.

Saw the new Indiana Jones movie. It was a fine distraction but it could have set the record for “why didn’t they just kill this character?” scenes.

I don’t think that Phoebe Waller-Bridge was particularly good in this genre. She’s delightful with dialogue but played a lot of the beats wrong here.

Saw two classics at the rep theatre this weekend.

Blue Velvet, enjoyed it, I like the weird Lynch stuff. Much more straightforward than some of his stuff.

Raiders of the Lost Ark, still a banger after 40 years. Love Karen Allen more each time I see it. She’s perfect in the role.

I need to rewatch Blue Velvet. Last time I saw it was roughly 30 years ago, at an independent movie theater in my college town that used to show interesting "midnight" movies on Friday and Saturday nights. A good movie to see while buzzed!

And I completely agree about Karen Allen.

I'm about 150 pages into it. Years ago I'd checked it out from the library, but, perhaps not surprisingly, was not able to read it in the two weeks it was checked out so finally bought it about a month ago.
