Met a guy minutes ago from Orlando, retired finance guy at Disney so we talked DeSantis a bit; he's not a fan ... checkers/chess etc etc.

I was intrigued by his shirt and he said that the Pipers were Pittsburgh's ABA team in '67. He grew up watching Pipers home games.

Either I knew about the Pipers and forgot or never knew but they won the first ABA title in '68 with Connie Hawkins and Chico Vaughn.

"His hands were like this," Bob said of Hawkins, placing his hands on atop the other. "He was like Dr. J before Dr. J."

The Pipers left Pittsburgh after their only season and went to Minnesota. Pittsburgh got another ABA team the next year, the Condors.

Why were there so many werewolf movies in the 80s? (American Werewolf in London, the Howling, Wolfen, Silver Bullet etc.)

I was just in my truck and heard GNR "Nightrain" on the radio (which surprised me), and got to thinking about how many hours of my life have been spent listening to Appetite, then I thought that young people would never get having to stop what you're doing, reach to the dash, and manually flip the cassette in the middle of a back seat make out session before getting back to business.

Hell, young people for the last 30 years or so have no idea of the debates we'd have over which side of "Appetite" was better. (I usually argued for Side 2, or the "R" side. "Rocket Queen" is a great album closer).

Fun fact: In the pilot, the principal was played by Jason Bernard, the rest of the first season was played by Ed Bernard (no relation), Joan Pringle took over in season 2.

TSA ought to deny access to the gate side of security to the 25 percent of flyers who dress like they’ve just been at the gym and didn’t have time to change clothes. I don’t know what this look is called, but it needs to stop.

Really simple, studio A announces major film about X, Studio B finds a similar script and launches it. See Top Gun and the much lesser cousin Iron Eagle. Or all the body-switch comedies of the 80s, or the undersea movies Abyss, Leviathan, Deep Blue Sea. Hollywood is a small town, they eat together and read the same trade rags.

I made a point a few years ago to wear nice pants, casual or dress shoes, and tuck in my shirt when flying. People in the airport tend to be nicer.
