Outrage as Republican says 1921 Tulsa massacre not motivated by race

In a public forum on Thursday, Ryan Walters, Oklahoma’s state superintendent of public instruction, said teachers could cover the 1921 massacre, in which white Tulsans murdered an estimated 300 Black people, but teachers should not “say that the skin color determined it”.

 

How do you teach the Tulsa Massacre without mentioning that angry Whites killed more affluent Blacks?

By definition, anyone who was lynched was not guilty.

Lynching isn’t about guilt or innocence of the victim. It’s—by it’s actual definition—a mob that kills someone outside the allowances of the law. You can—again, by actual definition—have a mob lynch someone immediately after being found guilty of a crime.

So I have no idea what you’re playing at or why it matters to you, but stop with this bullshit. Lynching is already awful enough. We are a society of laws and we can’t resort to mob justice or the wonton execution of Black people. Can we just leave it at that?
